The First World War had an impact on millions of people around the globe and influenced the world that we live in today.

‘Nidderdale AONB and the First World War: Leeds Pals, Prisoners Of War and the Home Front’ is Nidderdale AONB’s three year Heritage Lottery funded First World War project, which marks the centenary of the First World War in this area of the Yorkshire Dales.

The project has focused on the impact of the war on the landscape and communities of Nidderdale AONB and the poignant story of the Leeds Pals, who were trained in the area.

This website shares the findings of the project. You can find out about visiting the places associated with the First World War within Leeds and the AONB, research a service man or woman from this part of Yorkshire or learn more about the project through a range of materials, reports and blogs.

You can also find out more about the project, and who has been involved and made it happen.
